Reduce

Reducing waste is one of the three major components to helping the environment. We can reduce the amount of garbage we throw away by recycling, we can reduce the amount of electricity we use by turning lights off when not in use. We can use alternative transportation such as riding bikes to places we need to go that are close.

  • The average American uses 650 pounds of paper each year – 100 million tons of wood could be saved each year if all that paper was recycled.

Recycling one aluminum can saves enough energy to run a TV for three hours. In spite of this, Americans throw away enough aluminum to rebuild our entire commercial fleet of airplanes every three months!

Every month Americans throw out enough glass bottles and jars to fill up a giant skyscraper (think: Empire State Building), but all of these jars are recyclable!

These were just some facts from www.dosomething.org

The ideas of reducing usage of electricity, gas, waste, are endless when creative minds care about one another and the environment. If people envision themselves as part of a bigger idea we can create a global community that is just a little bit greener.
